Wow - haven't posted in forever

Just looked at my blog for the first time in nearly 2 years!  (OK - yes uber embarrassing, so much that I use words like uber that I don't normally use).
I started a new job ( maybe not so new now) as an adult librarian. I was at a total loss about how to handle my kids book blog.  I was "turning to the dark side" as many of my children's librarian colleagues refered to my move to adult.  I wasn't sure if it was still OK to read kids lit, much less write about it. I also had the very valid excuse of  really  needing to concentrate on adult lit and get myself caught up.
Now of course, I had the realization that all adults are just really big kids inside. So,.....I really can just write about any books I feel like.    Even some of my favorite adult books over the past couple years.
Stand outs.....

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

I couldn't put this book down, after a rather hesitant start the story took off and remained reliably well formed with magic, adventure and emotional twists and turns.  It was part love story, part fairy tale and part bildungsroman with plenty of action for even the most resistant fantasy readers to find enjoyment in it.  Peak at the trailer on the authors website.

When Marian Sang, by Pam Munoz Ryan

I used this biography in a library program today (involving karaoke) and am once again impressed by its beauty.  The story is an amazing tale of success and triumph in the face of unfairness and adversity, which always has a powerful effect on an audience.  A classic to enjoy and learn from again and again.  Thank you Pam Munoz Ryan!
